Parker Brothers was founded by George S. Parker, who released his first game in 1883 at the age of 16. Originally in was Salem -based company under the Company George S. Parker Company conducted. When his brother Charles joined the company in 1888, the company was changed to its more common form. A third brother, Edward H. Parker, joined in 1898. For many years, George Parker designed most of the games himself and wrote all of the rules.

As the game industry continued to grow, the company became very profitable. During the Great Depression , when other companies had to file for bankruptcy, Parker Brothers published the board game Monopoly .

The company remained family-owned after the death of George Parker until it was bought by General Mills in 1968 for $ 45.5 million. General Mills merged Parker with her daughter connoisseurs for connoisseurs Parker Toys Inc . In 1987 Kenner Parker Toys Inc was sold by General Mills to Tonka .
