Jean Vidal

Jean Vidal (born March 7, 1789 in Sorèze , † June 14, 1867 ) was a French violinist and conductor.

Live and act

From 1805 Jean Vidal studied violin at the Paris Conservatory with Rodolphe Kreutzer , and he also took composition lessons with François-Joseph Gossec . In 1808 he received first prize in the violin category, and in the following year the deuxième Second Grand Prix de Rome for the cantata Agar dans le désert .

From 1816 he was a violinist with the Paris Opera Orchestra . In 1828 he was one of the founding members of the of Sosthène de la Rochefoucauld initiated and of François-Antoine Habeneck led Societe des concerts du Conservatoire , whose concerts is acquired quickly international reputation. From 1831 he also headed the Théâtre-Italy . In 1836 he became the conductor of the Athénée musical and first chamber violinist for King Louis-Philippe .

Between 1814 and 1840 Vidal took part in the chamber music concerts organized by Pierre Baillot . Works by Luigi Boccherini , Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart , Ludwig van Beethoven , George Onslow , Giovanni Battista Viotti and Baillot's own compositions were performed in more than 140 concerts .
