Zoran Mušič (born February 12, 1909 in Bukovica near Gorizia , Austria-Hungary , † May 25, 2005 in Venice ) was a Slovenian-Italian painter and graphic artist .

life and work

Mušič studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Zagreb . From March 1935 to June 1935 he stayed in Spain and moved to Venice after a stay in Dalmatia . In 1944 he was deported to the Dachau concentration camp , where about two hundred drawings by Mušič were made. Thirty-five of the drawings were preserved after the end of the war and formed the basis for Nous ne sommes les derniers , created in 1970 . In 2016, 23 drawings from Dachau were discovered in the archive of the National Partisan Association of Italy in Trieste.

In 1945 he returned to Venice and in 1948 took part in the first Venice Biennale after the war, followed by the biennials of 1950, 1954, 1956, 1982 and 1985.

Zoran Mušič participated in the documenta I (1955), the Documenta II (1959) and the D ocumenta VI (1977) in Kassel . In 2005 his drawings, which he made during his imprisonment in the Dachau concentration camp from 1944 to 1945, were exhibited in Dachau and Koper .

In 2002 he was elected an honorary member of the American Academy of Arts and Letters .
