Bengt Holbek

Bengt Knud Holbek (born April 1, 1933 in Copenhagen ; † August 27, 1992 there ) was a Danish folklorist .

Career

In 1962, after studying Danish and Latin philology and folklore at the University of Copenhagen, Holbek did his Magister Artium . In the following years he worked as an archivist at the Dansk Folkemindesamling there, until in 1970 he became a lecturer at the Institute for Folkemindevidenskab (since 1988 Institute for Folklore Studies ) at Copenhagen University. In 1987 he completed his habilitation with the thesis Interpretation of Fairy Tales .

After publishing his dissertation (postdoctoral thesis in Denmark) he became co-editor of the Folklore Fellows' Communications and remained so until the end.
