Ian Armit (musician)

Ian Armit (born April 11, 1929 in Fife (Scotland) , † February 18, 1992 in Zurich ) was a British blues and jazz pianist .

Armit played in Sandy Brown's band in 1957 ; in the same year he released the solo EP Jazz Club Piano on Decca Records . In the late 1950s he was a member of Humphrey Lyttelton's band and also took part in recordings for Al Fairweather , Cy Laurie and Wally Fawkes .

In the 1960s Armit worked in the British blues scene a. a. with Alexis Korners Blues Incorporated , with Rod Stewart and with singer Long John Baldry , with whom he toured the United States in 1971. As a session musician, he also worked with Sandy Denny ( Like an Old Fashioned Waltz ) in the 1970s . He went on a European tour with trumpeter Bob Wallis. Then he moved to Switzerland, where he not only led his own quartet, but also recorded his Ian's Boogie Woogie with the Old Rivertown Jazz Band and performed with the Piccadilly Six , the Harlem Rambler and local blues bands.
