Parliamentary election in Lithuania in 1992

The parliamentary elections in Lithuania in 1992 took place on October 20 and November 10, 1992. It was the first choice in Lithuania, which has been independent since 1990.

Electoral system

141 mandates in the Lithuanian Parliament (Seimas) were redefined. 71 were proportionally awarded to the parties that jumped the four percent hurdle. The remaining 71 were given as direct mandates. The right to vote is thus a mixed system of majority voting and proportional representation , called the ditch voting system . The legislative period was four years.

Election result

The Democratic Labor Party of Lithuania (LDDP) won the election with 43.98 percent . It received an absolute majority with 73 out of 141 seats in parliament. The Sąjūdis movement landed in second place with 21.17 percent. The third strongest force was the Christian Democrats of Lithuania (LKDP) with 12.61 percent.
