Referendum in Lithuania 2019

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The 2019 Lithuanian referendum on two Lithuanian constitutional issues took place on May 12, 2019. The early casting of votes was possible for the whole working week from May 6, 2019. The central question was the preservation of the Lithuanian citizenship when acquiring a foreign citizenship. More than half of the eligible voters took part in the referendum, but the number of citizens who voted for the so-called dual citizenship was not enough for the constitutional acceptance of the corresponding constitutional law.

A second referendum dealt with the proposal to reduce the seats in the Lithuanian parliament from 141 to 121, which, despite three-quarters approval, failed due to insufficient voter turnout (almost 48 percent instead of the required 50 percent).
