The 2004 parliamentary elections in Lithuania took place on October 10, 2004.

Electoral system

141 mandates in the Lithuanian Parliament (Seimas) were redefined. 70 were proportionally awarded to the parties that jumped the 5% hurdle (7% hurdle for list connections). The remaining 71 were given as direct mandates. The right to vote is thus a mixed system of majority voting and proportional representation , called the ditch voting system . The legislative period was 4 years.

Election result

The Labor Party (DP) of Russian- born millionaire Viktor Uspaskich , which was founded only a year earlier, had a landslide victory . She got 28.44 percent and was thus the strongest force in parliament. In second place with high losses came the Social Democratic Party of Lithuania (LSDP) with 20.65 percent. The third strongest force with strong gains was the Patriotic Union (TS (LK)) with 14.75 percent.
