Katherine "Katie" Mari Stevens (born December 8, 1992 in Southbury , Connecticut ) is an American actress and singer . Katie finished eighth in American Idol's ninth season . From 2014 to 2016 she starred as Karma in the MTV series Faking It .

biography

Childhood and youth

Stevens grew up in Middlebury , Connecticut, USA . Her parents are Mark Stevens and Clara Francisco. She finished second in Miss Connecticut's Outstanding Teen 2009 beauty pageant, and she was named a Westbury Outstanding Teen in the Greater Watertown Scholarship Pageant in 2009.

Stevens made her first live appearance in front of an audience at the age of five when she sang the national anthem at a local politician's party. She has been involved in local theaters since she was young. She appeared as Dorothy in the musical The Wizard of Oz at the BSS Children's Theater and Main Street Theater. At the Main Street Theater, Stevens also played the role of Sharpay in the High School Musical and The Cat in the musical Honk! . She also played Nellie Forbush in the musical South Pacific and Lydia Bennett in the school production of Pride and Prejudice . At the age of 13, she made a musical performance at Carnegie Hall .

Katie Stevens counts Whitney Houston and Jason Mraz among her favorite artists. She was musically influenced by Taylor Swift and her brother Ryan Stevens. She plays guitar , piano , cello and flute .

Participation in American Idol

On August 13, 2009 she took part in the casting for American Idol in Boston and was nominated by all four jury members for the next round in Hollywood. Juror Kara DioGuardi named her the most talented 16-year-old she has ever seen, and later as a potential winner. On April 14, 2010, she was finally eliminated in eighth place. Together with the other finalists, she then took part in the American Idols Summer Tour 2010.

The time after idol

After retiring from American Idol , Katie Stevens appeared on several talk shows. On April 16, 2010, she appeared on the Ellen DeGeneres Show with Over the Rainbow . She also sang with Andrew Garcia Superhuman on the Late Show with David Letterman and Big Girls Don't Cry on the Wendy Williams Show . From July 1 to August 13, 2010, she participated in American Idols LIVE! Tour 2010 where she performed the songs Here We Go Again by Demi Lovato and Fighter by Christina Aguilera .

After the tour, Stevens moved to Los Angeles to work on her first album. She doesn't have a record company contract yet, but she's already writing songs with David Hodges . By early November 2010, Stevens had already written 9 songs, including Waste My Time . 12 December 2010 Stevens made a guest appearance in Ídolos Portugal and sang All I Want for Christmas Is You by Mariah Carey .

In June 2012, Stevens played the title role in the music video Beauty and the Beat of Todrick Hall , which has over 11 million views.

Breakthrough as an actress

In October MTV ordered the comedy series Faking It with Stevens in a leading role. In it she plays Karma, who pretends to be a lesbian and in a relationship with her best friend Amy ( Rita Volk ). She falls in love with the boy Liam ( Gregg Sulkin ). The premiere of the series on April 22, 2014 had around 1.2 million viewers and thus achieved values ​​similar to Awkward in the opening program. In the 2015 series finale of CSI: Vegas , the television film CSI: Immortality , she played Lindsey, the daughter of Catherine Willows ( Marg Helgenberger ). Since 2017 she has played a leading role in the freeform series The Bold Type , which is based on the life of former Cosmopolitan editor-in-chief Joanna Coles.

Private life

Katie's grandmother is from Portugal and has Alzheimer's disease . Katie also speaks Portuguese. She graduated from Southbury High School in June 2010 and raised music for her school's scholarship program.
