Bettina Plank (born February 24, 1992 in Feldkirch , Vorarlberg ) is an Austrian Kumite - Karateka . At the World Championships in 2016 and 2018 she won the bronze medal in the weight class up to 50 kg, and in 2015 she became European champion in Istanbul .

biography

Bettina Plank started martial arts at the age of nine after completing a trial training session at the Götzis Karate Club . In 2003 she moved to Mäder , where she was trained by Dragan Leiler. From 2006 to 2011 she attended the sports grammar school in Dornbirn and was accepted into the national team at the age of 16. After graduating from high school , she became a competitive athlete in the armed forces and trained at the military sports center in Dornbirn until 2013. Since 2015 she has been preparing for her competitions in the Olympic Center Sportland Oberösterreich as well as with her Wels club and with the Olympic Center Vorarlberg.

In 2014 she finished seventh in the weight class up to 50 kg at the World Championships in Bremen . In addition, she won the silver medal at her first European participation in Tampere and was crowned national champion for the first time in Lauterach . In 2015 she won the European Championship in Istanbul and won the bronze medal with the Austrian team. In addition, she achieved top results in several international tournaments and was able to defend her state championship. At the home World Cup in Linz in 2016 , she won her first World Championship medal with bronze. In 2017 she won another bronze medal at the European Championships in İzmit and celebrated her fourth national championship title.

After further EM and World Cup medals, in 2019 she won the only Austrian gold medal at the European Games in Minsk . In the final she prevailed 5-1 against Serap Özçelik from Turkey .
