Karate World Championships

The Karate World Championships are the largest and most important competitions in karate . They are organized by the World Karate Federation (WKF for short), founded as the World Union of Karate Do Organizations (WUKO for short), the only one organized by the International Olympic Committee (IOC for short). The first world championship took place in Tokyo in 1970 . The World Championships have been held every two years since 1980. Women's competitions have been held since 1980 . In Germany two world championships have been held in 2000 in Munich and in 2014 in Bremen .
