Bismack Biyombo Sumba (born August 28, 1992 in Lubumbashi ) is a Congolese basketball player . Biyombo has played in the National Basketball Association (NBA) since 2011 , currently with the Charlotte Hornets . His preferred position is that of the center .

career

Bismack Biyombo started playing basketball in earnest at the age of 14. His talent was quickly recognized and he decided against the advice of his parents to try his luck as a professional. After working in Qatar , Jordan and Lebanon , he was discovered at a tournament in Yemen by the Portuguese coach Mário Palma , who was then the national coach of Jordan . He placed him in Spain , where he soon signed a contract with CB Fuenlabrada that ran until 2014 . At the Madrid suburb club he started in the junior team, but during the season he rose to the associated clubs Fuenlabrada Getafe in the fourth division (EBA) and CB Illescas in the third division ( LEB Plata ).

When CB Fuenlabrada's first team, playing in the ACB league , sold their center Esteban Batista to Caja Laboral in the winter of 2010/11 , 18-year-old Biyombo got his chance and made his debut in the first division against DKV Joventut on January 9, 2011 . During his missions, he impressed with his defensive strength, both as a rebounder and as a shot blocker . His achievements led to an invitation to the youth tournament called Nike Hoop Summit , in which the best US talents meet a world selection. Biyombo achieved the first triple double in tournament history with twelve points, eleven rebounds and ten blocks .

On June 23, 2011, he was chosen in the NBA draft as the 7th pick by the Sacramento Kings , but traded to the Charlotte Bobcats (later renamed Hornets) that same evening . Since Biyombo was still contractually bound to CB Fuenlabrada , FIBA refused to approve a change and referred to the fixed transfer fee. After a protracted transfer dispute, Biyombo finally agreed at the end of December 2011 with his Spanish ex-club on a payment of 1.5 million US dollars in order to be released from his contract and then signed with the Charlotte Hornets.

On July 18, 2015, he signed a contract with the Toronto Raptors . After the season he became a free agent and moved to Orlando Magic .

On March 17, 2016, Biyombo reached his career best in this category with 25 rebounds against the Indiana Pacers .
