Kenneth MacMillan

Sir Kenneth MacMillan (born December 11, 1929 in Dunfermline , Scotland , † October 29, 1992 in London , England ) was a British ballet dancer and choreographer .

Life

Kenneth MacMillan grew up in Great Yarmouth . There he began his dance training with Phyllis Adams. After just a few months he applied for a scholarship at Sadler's Wells Ballet and was accepted. Another year later he became a member of the Sadler's Wells Theater ballet company . Soon afterwards he started his first experiments as a choreographer. Eventually he gave up his career as a dancer in favor of choreography . He has written a variety of choreographies. His works include both abstract ballets and narrative ballets . His first action ballet Romeo and Julija was filmed with Rudolf Nureyev and Margot Fonteyn in the leading roles. In 1974 he brought out his ballet Manon based on music by Jules Massenet with the Royal Ballet at the Royal Opera House in London . During his long career he worked as a director and choreographer for the Royal Ballet , the American Ballet Theater , the Stuttgart Ballet , the Houston Ballet and the Ballet of the Deutsche Oper Berlin . In Stuttgart he choreographed the ballet Las Hermanas based on the drama Bernarda Albas Haus von Lorca .

In 1983 he was of Queen Elizabeth II. The Knights defeated. He died of a heart attack in 1992.
