Increase opportunities
The partly secured mountain tour to the summit requires surefootedness and a head for heights . The starting point is the village of Kolfuschg (municipality of Corvara ). From here the ascent takes place via the Edelweißhütte ( 1824 m above sea level ) and the Sassongher-Scharte ( 2435 m above sea level ).
From the Edelweißhütte you follow the course of the Edelweißtal for about 25 minutes to the junction to the Sassongher-Scharte. On a narrow, sometimes steep path, one overcomes the rocky base of the Sassongher, although experienced people are hardly confronted with major difficulties. Partly the stony path runs directly on the abyss, so that good shoes and surefootedness are indispensable, especially on the descent because of the risk of slipping. From the Sassongher-Scharte you can reach a climbing passage secured by wire ropes via a rubble fan. Here, some artificial steps are installed in the grippy rock, with the help of which you can overcome approx. 30 meters in altitude. Although this path is shown as a via ferrata on the hiking maps, if you have some mountain experience and if the weather is good, you can safely ascend unsecured, as the difficult section is quite short and the ascent is gradual so that no deep fall is possible.
After around 2–2 1 ⁄ 2 hours (starting from the Edelweißhütte) you reach the summit, which in good visibility offers a remarkable view of the Sella , Marmolada and the main Alpine ridge .
The descent runs like the ascent to the Sassongher Scharte. There you can decide whether to descend the 1200 meters on the other side of the saddle to Stern instead of the same path .
