Puez-Geisler Nature Park
The Puez-Geisler ( Italian Parco Naturale Puez-Odle , Ladin Parch Naturel Puez Odles or Parch Natural Pöz-Odles ) is a regional park in the South Tyrolean Dolomites ( Italy ). It was founded in 1978, expanded in 1999 and today covers an area of 10,722 ha, divided into the communities Abtei , Corvara , St. Christina in Val Gardena , St. Martin in Thurn , Ortisei in Val Gardena , Villnöß and Selva in Val Gardena .
Expansion and habitats
The Puez-Geisler Nature Park extends in the mountains of the Geisler Group , the Puez Group and the Peitlerkofel Group between Val Badia , Val Gardena and Funes . The Puez group, in which u. a. the Puez peaks ( 2918 m ), the Sassongher ( 2665 m ) and the Stevia ( 2555 m ) rise, occupy the southeast of the park up to the Gardena Pass ( 2121 m ). The extensive Gardenazza plateau and the Lech de Crespëina are also located there . The western part is occupied by the Geisler group, which has its highest points on the Sass Rigais and the Furchetta (both 3,025 m ). A narrow strip of territory on the northern flank of the Seceda creates the connection to the Raschötzer ridge. In the north the Peitlerkofel group rises up to the Würzjoch ( 2003 m ) with the eponymous Peitlerkofel ( 2875 m ) and the Afer Geisler .
The Puez-Geisler Nature Park is geologically particularly interesting, as all the rock layers typical of the Dolomites occur, such as B. the Val Gardena Formation , Bellerophon Formation , Werfen Formation or St. Cassian Formation . Forests are only on the edge of the park area. Alpine pastures , mountain meadows and, at higher altitudes, alpine grass communities made up of upholstered sedges and blue grasses are characteristic of the landscape . Much of the total area of the park consists of dolomite rocks and rubble heaps ,
