Location and surroundings
The Peitlerkofel group is a relatively small mountain group, separated from the Lüsner mountains in the north by the Afer valley and the Untermoital , in the south by the Villnöß valley and the Kreuzjoch ( Furcela de Munt de Furćia in Ladin ) from the Geisler group and by the Campill valley from the Puez group becomes. In the west lies the Eisack Valley , in the east the Gadertal .
The Peitler group is located in the area of the municipalities of Villnöß and St. Martin in Thurn and is largely protected in the Puez-Geisler Nature Park .
structure
The largest part of the group consists of a mountain range running in a west-east direction, which is divided in half by the Peitlerscharte. To the east lies the Peitlerkofel ( 2875 m ), the eponymous main summit of the group, which sends a ridge down to the Gadertal to the northeast. West of the Peitlerscharte is the subgroup of the Aferer Geisler (also Aferer Geiseln ), which with the Tullen ( 2652 m ), the Wälschen Ring ( 2607 m ) and the Ringpitze ( 2625 m ) have their most important elevations and towards the west towards the Eisack Valley fall off a long, mostly wooded ridge. From the Peitlerscharte, a short ridge, divided in turn by the Kreuzkofeljoch, leads southwest to the Kreuzjoch, on which the Zendleser Kofel ( 2418 m ) and the Schlüterhütte are located.
