Afer valley

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Afer Valley ( Italian: Valle di Eores ) is a left side valley of the Eisack Valley . It branches off at Albeins , about five kilometers south of the city center of Brixen , in an easterly direction and is drained by the Sade . It is framed in the north by the Plose , in the south by the wooded foothills of the Peitlerkofel group and the Afer Geisler . At the end of the valley, it ends at the 1866  m high Kofeljoch or Halsl , a pass to the uppermost Lüsner valley . Just below the Kofeljoch, the saddle on the Russiskreuz also provides a 1729  m high transition to the Villnößtal, which runs parallel to the south .

Administratively, the Afer Valley is divided between the municipalities of Brixen and Villnöß , with the municipality boundary largely following the course of the stream. The valley is sparsely populated. The villages located on the orographically right , northern valley slopes form the Afers fraction within the municipality of Brixen, with St. Georg as the main town.
