The Zendleser Kofel ( Italian Col di Poma ) is a 2422 m high mountain in the South Tyrolean Dolomites .
Location and surroundings
The Zendleser Kofel is located in the innermost Villnöß valley in South Tyrol ( Italy ). It is in front of the ridge of the Peitlerkofel group to the west, which branches off from the main ridge of the mountain group to the south - separating Villnößtal and Campilltal - and forms a transition to the Geisler group. It is located in the municipality of Villnöß and is under protection in the Puez-Geisler Nature Park .
topography
The Zendleser Kofel presents itself towards the west towards Villnöß as a pointed, rocky summit. On its southern and eastern slopes, however, it is predominantly characterized by grass mats, which only slope slightly towards the Kreuzkofeljoch ( 2344 m ), the transition from the Villnöß valley to the Campill valley, only a few hundred meters south-east.
Alpinism
The peak of Zendleser Kofel, a high on the Wetterkreuz located, is of the near, somewhat below the southeast and Kreuzkofeljochs located Schlüterhütte in a short and light migration distance. As it rises freely at the head of the Villnöß valley, it offers a comprehensive view of the mountains of the Peitlerkofel group in the north ( Peitlerkofel , Aferer Geisler ) and those of the Geisler group ( Sass Rigais , Furchetta ) and the Puez group ( Piz Duleda , Puezspitzen ) in the south . In winter, the mountain is a popular destination for ski tours and snowshoe hikes .
Surname
The Zendleser Kofel owes its name to a mountain mowing of the Zendels farm (today Bühler in St. Magdalena in Villnöß). Zendels, on the other hand, is derived from the Latin cingulum meaning belt , which possibly refers to a belt-shaped encircling of the courtyard with rocks or meadows.
