Ásgeir (born July 1, 1992 in Laugarbakki ; also Ásgeir Trausti , full name Ásgeir Trausti Einarsson ) is an Icelandic singer-songwriter .

Ásgeir is the son of the Icelandic poet Einar Georg Einarsson , who wrote most of the songs for Ásgeir. He lives in Reykjavík .

In 2012 he topped the Icelandic charts for nine weeks with the song Hvítir Skór , which he produced together with Blaz Roca. His debut album Dýrð í dahðaþögn became the best-selling debut album in Iceland. About 10% of Icelanders own this album. The songs on the debut album were translated into English by John Grant and released in 2013 under the album title In the Silence .

Awards

In 2012, Ásgeir won several categories at the Icelandic Music Awards : best album of the year (for Dýrð í dahðaþögn ), best newcomer (pop, rock and blues), Public Choice Award, Icelandicmusic.com's Online Achievement Award.

In 2012 he won the Kraumur Awards with Dýrð í dauðaþögn .

He was also awarded the 2014 European Border Breakers Award for Iceland.
