Sebastian Fickert (* 1976 in Schweinfurt ) is a German judge and writer .

Life

After studying law at the Julius Maximilians University of Würzburg , he did his doctorate in the field of criminal procedural law. In early 2004 he was appointed judge. In the meantime he worked as a public prosecutor, then as a judge at the district court of Gemünden am Main . From October 2008 to November 2016 he was a judge at the Würzburg Regional Court and since December 2016 he has been a judge at the Bamberg Higher Regional Court .

In 2003 Fickert worked as a trainee lawyer at the German Embassy in Tokyo . During this time his first non-legal publication “14 Weeks Japan” was created. In 2009 his novel “The Frog on the Water” was published, in which he uses the story of two unequal friends to deal with topics such as letting go and bonding. The title of the book goes back to a haiku by Naito Joso (1662–1704): “With the strength not to cling, it carries the frog on the water.” Two years later, the travel story “Kazakhstan” followed. The novel "Eckert or the Bird in the Vineyard", published in 2013, is about the good-for-nothing Max Eckert who tries his hand at being a private detective and gets caught in the vortex of organized crime. After climbing Ararat , Fickert wrote another travel story. In addition to describing the mountain experience, he deals with cultural-historical and political aspects of the relationship between Turks and Armenians and Kurds. Impressed by Alexander von Humboldt's work, Fickert travels through the Andes and the rainforest of Ecuador in 2016. After preparatory tours on the Pasochoa and the Pichincha, he has to cancel the ascent of the Cayambe because of a snow storm.

writing style

Fickert's style is characterized by calm, pointed descriptions of situations and behaviors.
