Kurt Lütgen
Kurt Lütgen (born November 25, 1911 in Glietzig , Naugard district , Pomerania ; † July 25, 1992 in Bad Salzuflen ) was a German writer .
Life
Kurt Lütgen was born the son of a farmer in Glietzig and grew up in Magdeburg . After attending grammar school , he studied German , history , philosophy and art history at the University of Halle .
He later trained as a bookseller and worked as a journalist and freelance editor in Essen from 1933 to 1941 . From 1941 to 1945 he took part in the Second World War as a medical service soldier . After 1945 he lived as a freelance writer and translator in Essen, Bad Oeynhausen , Detmold and Bad Salzuflen .
Kurt Lütgen wrote, based on Joseph Conrad and Alfred E. Johann , mostly books for young people on exotic and historical topics. His greatest success of these extensively researched “non-fiction books for the youth” was Kein Winter für Wölfe (1955) about the rescue of a whaling team trapped in the ice. His most ambitious work is Das Rätsel Nordwestpassage (1966).
