Gerónimo Rulli started playing football in the youth of Estudiantes in his hometown. In 2011 he was accepted into the first team and was in the squad from 2012. He made his professional debut on April 9, 2013 - 8th matchday of the second half of the league - in the away game at Arsenal de Sarandí , in which he was called up from the start; in the 1-0 defeat, he had to accept the goal in the 87th minute. He was then in all other league games in goal and only had to accept four more goals in eleven games, where he remained in eight games in a row without conceding. During this time he stayed 588 minutes in a row without conceding a goal and is in this respect the club's record goalkeeper. He replaced the previous record holder Marcelo Yorno , who had conceded 540 minutes in 1991. In the following season he was able to defend his regular place and was in the starting lineup in all games, of which he was able to finish 18 to zero.

In July 2014, Deportivo Maldonado from Uruguay secured the transfer rights to Rulli. However, he never played for the Uruguayan second division and was loaned to the first division Real Sociedad San Sebastián that same month in Spain . There he made his debut on August 28, 2014 in the second leg of the Europa League play-off round at FK Krasnodar in the starting lineup. With a penalty in the 71st minute of the game he conceded a goal and had to be replaced by Eñaut Zubikarai in the 85th due to injury. Also due to the injury, he did not return to work until the end of December 2014 and immediately earned a regular place.

In July 2016, the English first division club Manchester City signed Rulli for a rumored transfer fee to Maldonado amounting to four million pounds, but loaned him straight back to San Sebastián. Both clubs came to an agreement that Rulli should play on loan at Real Sociedad until the end of 2016 in order to receive a permanent contract until the end of June 2022 in San Sebastián with effect from the turn of the year.

National team

Rulli was first in March 2015, the cadre of senior national appeal. Although he was in the squad in ten games until September 2017, he was not used in these. On September 7, 2018, Rulli finally made his debut for the A-selection. He played the entire game distance in the 3-0 away win in Guatemala .
