Asier Illarramendi Andonegi , also known as Illarra (born March 8, 1990 in Mutriku , Autonomous Community of the Basque Country ) is a Spanish football player . The midfielder is under contract with Real Sociedad .
Club career
Asier Illarramendi comes from the youth department of the Basque club Real Sociedad San Sebastián . After his youth he played from 2008 to 2011 mainly in the second team of his club. On the last day of the Segunda División 2009/10 , the midfielder played for the first team for the first time in the 1: 4 defeat against FC Elche . At this point, Real Sociedad was already sure to be promoted to the Primera División . In the following season Illarramendi came on three appearances in the first division and played mainly in the second team. Since 2011 he has been a regular in the Basque defensive midfield. In the 2012/13 season he and his team reached a surprising fourth place in the table and thus participation in the play-off round of the 2013/14 UEFA Champions League .
For the 2013/14 season Illarramendi moved to Real Madrid . He signed a six-year contract until June 30, 2019. With Real Madrid, he won the Copa del Rey and the UEFA Champions League in his first season , and the UEFA Super Cup and the FIFA Club World Cup in his second year .
At the Royal, Illarramendi acted mainly as a substitute and could not prevail against the well-known competitors Xabi Alonso , Luka Modrić and Toni Kroos in the central midfield. He returned to Real Sociedad on August 26, 2015 and was given a six-year contract until June 30, 2021.
National team
At the U-17 World Cup in 2007 , he failed with the Spanish youth team in the final after penalty shoot-out at the Nigerian national team. On the other hand, he won the title with the U-21 selection at the 2013 European Championships .
