Mikel Merino Zazón (born June 22, 1996 in Pamplona ) is a Spanish football player . The central midfielder is under contract with Real Sociedad San Sebastián .
Career
societies
Merino began his career with CD Amigó and from there moved to the youth academy of CA Osasuna . There he played for a year for the B team from 2013 and moved up to the pros for the 2014/15 season . On August 23, 2014, he made his debut in a 2-0 home win against FC Barcelona B in the Segunda División . Merino scored his first goal on December 21, 2014 in a 2-1 away win over UD Las Palmas . In his first season he came to 29 league appearances. In the 2015/16 season he scored four goals in 34 league games and reached sixth place in the table with the team , which qualified them for promotion playoffs . There Merino prevailed with Osasuna against Gimnàstic de Tarragona and FC Girona , which meant promotion to the Primera División .
For the 2016/17 season Merino moved to the German Bundesliga for Borussia Dortmund . In mid-February 2016, he signed a contract with a term until June 30, 2021. At the end of the season, he won the DFB Cup with the team .
For the 2017/18 season , Merino initially switched to Newcastle United, newly promoted to the Premier League , on loan including a purchase obligation from a certain number of competitive games . After seven Premier League appearances (no goal), he was finally signed in October 2017 and given a contract until June 30, 2022.
For the 2018/19 season Merino returned to Spain and joined the first division club Real Sociedad San Sebastián . He signed a contract that runs until June 30, 2023.
National team
Merino played for the first time for the Spanish U19 national team in November 2014 in two friendly matches . In July 2015 he took part with her at the U19 European Championship in Greece . In the course of the tournament, he was used five times, scored one goal and won the title with the team after a 2-0 final victory against Russia on July 19, 2015.
On September 1, 2016, Merino made his debut in the 6-0 win against San Marino in the U21 national team . He scored his first goal on March 23, 2017 in a 3-1 win over Denmark .
