Raees is a Bollywood action film by director Rahul Dholakia with Shah Rukh Khan in the lead role and Nawazuddin Siddiqui as the antagonist , in which Pakistani actress Mahira Khan made her Bollywood film debut.

The international film premiere took place on January 25, 2017, in Germany the film was shown on February 2, 2017, but in the original language with German subtitles ( OmU ).

Raees lives in Gujarat , a state where Prohibition is in effect, and becomes involved in the illegal alcohol trade at a very young age. Together with Sadiq, Raees works for a gangster Jairaj who illegally smuggles alcohol by bribing the police. Raees lives from his mother's philosophy that any occupation is good and no religion is greater than any occupation as long as it does not harm anyone. He decides to part ways with Jairaj and work on his own. He meets Musabhai in Mumbai, and with his help he starts his bootlegging business. Meanwhile, an honest police officer from the IPS cadre, JA Majmudar, is transferred to Fatehpur and begins a massive crackdown on alcohol dealers.

Gujarat's prime minister and Pashabhai, a shrewd politician, support Raees for alcohol and money. With his money, intelligence, and tact, Raees finds ways to fend off Majmudar time and again and continues his trade. He also helps his community find employment for women, sewing cloth bags that he uses to smuggle in alcohol and deliver it to households. In the meantime, Raees marries Aasiya. Because of his differences with Raees, Jairaj tries to kill him, but Raees survives and kills Jairaj.

Raees and Aasiya have a young son named Faizan. Raees invites CM, Pashabhai and many others to celebrate with him. Raees is then offered a project by the Prime Minister to eliminate the illegal residents of a region and to set up a housing project. Raees manages to get Majmudar into the wiretapping department. The tide turns, however, when Majmudar begins eavesdropping on Raees' phone calls. Raees attacks Pashabhai during his election campaign because, despite his warning, he marches through Raees' neighborhood with a demonstration. The Prime Minister advises Raees to go to jail for a while. While he is still imprisoned, the Prime Minister and Pasha form an alliance. To face them, Raees decides to run for the election and wins.

In the meantime Majmudar is being transferred back to Fatehpura. Communal riots break out in the state. In view of the threat posed by Raees, the Prime Minister moves the housing project into a green zone. Raees is suddenly broke, and all his money has gone into housing projects, elections and riot supplies.

Musabhai offers Raee's money for a gold smuggling job. Meanwhile, a series of bombings hit northern India. The investigation leads the police to Raees because the packaging of the smuggled gold contained the explosive used, RDX. Sadly, Raees kills Musabhai for betraying him and for sacrificing innocent people to spark communal unrest. Majmudar orders that Raees should be shot at the first visual contact, but he appears with representatives of the press and surrenders publicly, aware that Majmudar wants to kill him. Majmudar takes him to a secluded place and shoots him there. In retrospect, Raees recalls his mother's teachings, his efforts in the liquor trade, and his time with Aasiya. He remains dead while Majmudar and his men leave.
