The flying wing Pioneer II is a glider that was developed by Jim Marske .
Building description
The single-seat construction consists of a fuselage made of fiberglass-reinforced plastic with a vertical tail unit and a trapezoidal wing, which is swept slightly forward, made of wood with an S-flap profile and fabric covering. The elevators are located on the wing center section, the ailerons on the outer wing. In addition to the two ailerons, the wing has brake flaps that extend on both sides. Profiling: NACA 33012R on NACA 33010R. Due to the extremely thin profile section, the Pioneer has very good high-speed flight performance and a version enlarged to 15 m with sickle-shaped edge arches achieved quite comparable performance as the plastic comparison aircraft Grob G 102 .
The machine was delivered as a kit with GRP parts. The fuselage had to be removed by yourself, the surface connections and the most important fixtures had already been completed. In 2011, 11 Pioneer IIs were still registered in the USA and Canada. Further kits were delivered to Australia.
Compared to other well-known brushless aircraft, the Pioneer series has exceptionally good flight characteristics and is continued to this day (2017) with the Pioneer III and IV series .
