The flying wing Pioneer III is a modern performance glider that was developed by Jim Marske from the Pioneer IId .
construction
The single-seat plastic construction with fabric covering consists of a short, aerodynamic GRP fuselage with a swept vertical tail and a slightly forward swept trapezoidal wing with the S-flap profile Marske M35 with a thickness of 12.7%. The elevators are located on the wing center section, the ailerons on the outer wing. In addition to the two ailerons, the wing has airbrakes.
The machine is supplied as a kit with a fully assembled torsion nose and prefabricated plastic end ribs. The spar is made of extruded carbon fiber profiles like the Genesis 2 . The hull expansion must be carried out by yourself, the surface connections and most important fixtures have already been completed. The purchase as a completely built machine is also possible. Price: $ 32,500 kit, $ 45,500 ready to fly. Compared to other well-known tailless aircraft, the Pioneer series has extremely good flight characteristics.
Pioneer IV
Fuselage of the Pioneer III with wings in plastic shell construction and modified profile M 451 with 12% thickness. According to the manufacturer, this improves the performance to a glide ratio of ≈48 at 115 km / h and ≈24 at 210 km / h. In 2016, the Pioneer IV was probably the most powerful flying wing glider to date. Profile development takes place in collaboration with John Roncz, who also designed special profiles for Burt Rutan . The finished machine costs $ 50,500.
