The Genesis 2 is a single-seat glider FAI - standard class of Lithuanian manufacturer Sportinė Aviacija . What is particularly striking about the aircraft is the greatly shortened tail, which gives the design the impression of a tailless aircraft .
history
The Genesis 2 is the serial version of the Genesis 1 prototype , which was designed by the US design team "Genesis Group" led by sponsor Jerry Mercer. The main designers were Jim Marske (aircraft) and John Roncz (wing profile). When looking for a manufacturer for the prototype, they found what they were looking for at Sportinė Aviacija in Lithuania. The Genesis 1 had its maiden flight in 1993.
The prototype was changed significantly for series production. The series aircraft "Genesis 2" had its maiden flight on November 7, 1997. Due to economic problems, the relationship between the American developers and the manufacturer broke up, which is why production was discontinued after 27 aircraft.
construction
The main aim when designing the Genesis was to significantly reduce the surface area of the fuselage and horizontal stabilizer compared to conventional designs in order to reduce flow resistance. This could be achieved by the wing profile itself generating a positive pitching moment like a flying wing . The Genesis also has a small pendulum rudder on the vertical stabilizer, but this is mainly used for trimming and not to increase longitudinal stability .
Extruded wing spars made of carbon fiber reinforced plastic were used for series production . This technique was then used for other LAK aircraft. The nose wheel, like the main wheel, was made retractable for series production and the wing lock was reduced.
