The LAK-12 "Lietuva" is a Soviet / Lithuanian single-seat glider for the open class , which was built by LAK (Lietuviškos Aviacinės Konstrukcijos) and later by Sportinė Aviacija and Sport Aviation USSR.

The LAK-12 was designed for the open class in the 1980s.
GRP and CFRP were used for the cell . For the wings with a foam core and a span of 20.42 meters, a Wortmann FX67-K-170 profile was used in the area of the root , which merges into an FX67-K-150 profile towards the wing tip. The wings have double- deck air brakes and flaps that can be locked in the positions −7 °, −4 °, 0 °, + 5 °, + 11 ° and + 15 °. The wing is not divided like the ASW 17 or the Nimbus . The wing tanks can hold a maximum of 190 l of water ballast, the drain valve is located in the middle of the fuselage. The aircraft has a muted retracting landing gear and a grinding spur. The hood is designed in one piece and opens to the front.
In 1985, three members of the Soviet national glider team Antanas Rukas, Algemantas Ionusas and Alexander Silwanowitsch modified the aircraft for two-seater record flights on the European continent. The cockpit was lengthened, fitted with a side-folding hood and a new landing gear was designed. In April 1986 the first flight of the LAK-12DR "Lietuva-2R" followed.

In August 2011, 24 LAK-12s were listed in the US aircraft directory, all in the Experimental - Racing / Exhibition category . One aircraft was operated in the Limited Class of Transport Canada .
With the two-seater special version LAK-12DR, a women’s world record was set on May 16, 1986 with an average speed of 96 km / h on a 500 km triangle, another week later the DOSAAF flight instructors Tamara Swiridova and Valentina Toporova helped a target return route of 652 km in length.
