DOSAAF (Russian for Добровольное общество содействия армии, авиации и флоту , as much as Voluntary Society in Support of the Army, Air Force and Fleet ) was a paramilitary organization to strengthen the Soviet mass readiness .

The organization was merged and founded on August 20, 1951 as the successor to OSSOAWIACHIM from the sub-companies DOSARM, DOSAW and DOSFLOT, each of which was responsible for its own armed forces.

After the dissolution of the Soviet Union , the DOSAAF exists both in Russia and in Belarus and the Ukraine continue as independent organization.

ROSTO (РОСТО - Российская оборонная спортивно-техническая организация) The Russian Defense Sports Organization was founded on September 25, 1991 as an organization in Russia. In accordance with the decree of the President of the Russian Federation, she was the legal successor to the DOSAAF USSR on the territory of the Russian Federation. On December 7th, 2009 the historical name DOSAAF was given back to this organization by a resolution of the government of the Russian Federation.

aims

Membership in the DOSAAF was intended to prepare young people in terms of sport and technology for their military service in the armed forces of the Soviet Union. This included activities such as motor sports, gliding, parachuting, sport shooting and amateur radio. This pre-military training was important enough for the CPSU to provide airfields and shooting ranges. Satellite states of the Soviet Union later founded their own organizations based on this model, the Svazarm in the ČSSR and the GST in the GDR .
