The MAKS ( Russian Международный авиационно-космический салон (short Russian МАКС ), Meschdunarodny Awiazionno-Kosmitscheski Salon , International Aviation and Space Salon ') is an international trade fair for .

It has been held every two years since 1993 (unofficially since 1987), alternating with the ILA and in competition with Le Bourget . The venue is the Zhukovsky airfield of the Mikhail Gromov University of Flight Research in Zhukovsky near Moscow . At MAKS 2005, 606 exhibitors and 650,000 visitors were counted. This makes it the largest exhibition of its kind in Russia . In the past few years, the main focus was on the existing aircraft types and equipment used in Russian aviation and other CIS countries , but the exhibition is increasingly becoming a meeting point for Eastern European and Asian aircraft manufacturers.

MAKS 2007

At the 8th MAKS, a 1: 1 model of the Skat combat drone was presented. A restored Tu-144 was also on display. From August 24th to 26th, 2007, the MAKS was open to the general public. On the first day it had 100,000 visitors.

MAKS 2009

The 9th MAKS took place from August 18 to 23, 2009.

On August 16, 2009, during a training flight of the Russian aerobatic team Russkije Vitjasi , two Sukhoi Su-27s collided . A pilot was killed. Several weekend houses caught fire from falling debris, injuring at least five people.

The 10th fair took place from August 16-21, 2011. Among other things, the multi-purpose combat aircraft prototype Suchoi T-50 and the low-noise aircraft ALNA ( English Advanced Low Noise Aircraft ) from DLR were presented.

MAKS 2013

The DLR chairman of the board, Prof. Johann-Dietrich Wörner, presents the DLR stand and, among other things, the model of the Spaceliner (in the foreground) to Russian Prime Minister Dmitri Medvedev.

The 11th fair took place from August 27th to September 1st, 2013. There were, among others, a model of the new Russian capsule ( "New Generation Crew Transportation Vehicle"), the Soyuz is intended to replace, and the space plane Spaceliner of DLR presented. Contracts worth the equivalent of 19 billion euros were signed during the fair.

MAKS 2015

The 12th Russian Aerospace Exhibition MAKS was held from August 25th to 30th. Almost 600 Russian manufacturers and around 150 companies from around 30 exhibiting countries presented new military and civil aviation technology. Due to the sanctions of the ongoing conflict in Ukraine, a smaller number of western participants were represented.

MAKS 2017

The 13th fair took place from July 18 to 23, 2017. 37 countries took part and around 455,000 visitors came. Germany, Italy, France, Switzerland, China, the Czech Republic, Canada, Belarus, India and Iran had set up national pavilions. Contracts worth the equivalent of 5.9 billion euros were signed during the fair. Among other things, MiG-35 and Jak-152 were presented.

MAKS 2019

The 14th trade fair took place from August 27 to September 1, 2019 and was organized for the first time with China as a partner country. The opening ceremony was held by Vladimir Putin together with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan . A total of 827 exhibitors from 33 countries took part, 133 aircraft were presented on the ground and in the air. The number of visitors rose to almost 580,000, while the value of the contracts concluded fell to 3.4 billion euros compared to the previous year. Free entry for students was scheduled for August 30, which 7,000 of them took advantage of. The Sukhoi Su-30 , Su-34 , Su-35 and Su-57 fighter aircraft and, for the first time, the multi-purpose helicopter Ka-62 were demonstrated in flight . The new version of the MS-21 airliner, MS-21-300, was presented for the first time, as was the first production copy of the Mi-38 helicopter . Various aerobatic programs were presented, including those of the Baltic Bees Jet Team from Latvia and ANBO from Lithuania, as well as individual demonstrations by Swetlana Kapanina .
