Luis Gianneo
Luis Gianneo (born January 9, 1897 in Buenos Aires , † August 15, 1968 ibid) was an Argentine composer of Italian descent.
Gianneo was a piano student of Luigi Romaniello and Ernesto Drangosch and studied composition with Constantino Gaito and Eduardo Fornarini . In 1921 he married the singer and pianist Josefina Ghidoni and in 1923 moved to San Miguel de Tucumán . There he worked as a teacher, pianist and conductor for the next twenty years. He founded and directed the Tucumán Asociación Sinfónica , with which he performed the works of contemporary composers such as Igor Stravinsky , Claude Debussy and Ottorino Respighi .
In 1932 he joined the Grupo Renovación , which was founded in 1929 by Juan José and José María Castro , Jacobo Ficher and Juan Carlos Paz . Successful works such as El Tarco en Flor , Pampeanas and Turay-Turay were created . In 1938 he made a trip to Europe that took him to Italy, France, Belgium, Germany and Switzerland. He took part in the International Music Congress in Florence and performed his symphonic poem Turay-Turay in Turin . The Cinco pequeñas piezas , the First Symphony and the Concertino-Serenata were written in Paris . In 1939 Gianneo returned to Argentina. In 1944 his Concierto Aymara for violin and orchestra was premiered.
In 1945 he founded the Radio El Mundo Youth Orchestra and in 1954 the Radio Nacional Youth Symphony Orchestra . He became director of the National Conservatory and a member of the Culture Commission and the Academy of Fine Arts. The Variaciones sobre un tema de tango , the piano sonata No. 3 , the Symphony Antífona , the Cantata Angor Dei and the Obertura del Sesquicentenario .
He also worked as a teacher during this time. His students included Rodolfo Arizaga , Virtú Maragno , Juan Carlos Zorzi , the conductor Pedro Ignacio Calderón and the pianist and composer Ariel Ramírez . In 1949 Alberto Ginastera won him over as professor of harmony, instrumentation and composition at the La Plata Conservatory . In 1955 he became inspector of the National Conservatory and in 1965 President of the Argentine Society for Music Education.
The Mar del Plata Conservatory was named after him.
