Tadeusz Ajdukiewicz
Tadeusz Ajdukiewicz (* 1852 in Wieliczka , † January 9, 1916 in Kraków ) was a Polish portrait , genre and military painter.
life and work
Ajdukiewicz studied 1868–1873 a. a. with Władysław Łuszczkiewicz at the Academy of Fine Arts in Cracow . He later continued his education at the Vienna Academy and the Munich Academy . In 1874 he went public with scenes from the Polish uprising of 1863 . Long study trips took him to Egypt , Asia Minor and southern Russia . In 1877 he exhibited pictures with some oriental motifs that were very popular at the time, such as " Caravan ", " Market in Cairo " (1884), " Bank of the Nile" (1885) and " Prayer in the desert " (1888). In 1879 he painted portraits of several actresses and singers in Warsaw .
Ajdukiewicz later settled in Vienna , where he increasingly turned to military motifs such as maneuvers or parades . The artist was quite successful with this, because his contemporaries judged that the paintings would be meticulous, sometimes socially smooth images that did not lack light, air and color . The artist knows how to let the uniforms and gear of the cavalry shine in the sun. Through these successes, the Viennese imperial family and the court nobility quickly became aware of him, so that Ajdukiewicz henceforth emperors, archdukes and kings such as B. was able to portray King Charles of Romania on horseback. In 1893 the artist was called to London , where he painted a portrait of the Prince of Wales , Edward VII . Tadeusz Ajdukiewicz finally returned to his homeland via Bucharest and Vienna, where he died in Krakow in 1916.
He was the cousin of the painter Zygmunt Ajdukiewicz .
