Władysław Łuszczkiewicz
Władysław Łuszczkiewicz (born September 3, 1828 in Krakow ; † May 23, 1900 ibid) was a Polish painter , art teacher and art historian .
Life
Władysław Łuszczkiewicz was born as the son of Michał and Emilia. Krzyżanowska was born. 1838–1843 he attended St. Anna High School, then he studied philosophy and history at the Jagiellonian University from 1843–1845 , at the same time he studied drawing and painting at the Cracow Academy of Fine Arts with Wojciech Stattler until 1847 . Thanks to an art scholarship from the Galician government, he went to Paris, where he attended courses at the École des Beaux-Arts from 1849–1850 . After returning to Krakow in 1850, he became a painter, art teacher and restorer of Krakow's historical buildings. In his more than 40 years as an art teacher, Luszczkiewicz taught several generations of Polish painters, a. a. Jan Matejko , Artur Grottger , Andrzej Grabowski , Aleksander Kotsis , Jacek Malczewski , Stanisław Wyspiański , Józef Mehoffer , Karol Maszkowski , Wojciech Weiss and many more.
As a painter, Luszczkiewicz primarily preferred historical and religious subjects and is considered a pioneer of historicism in Polish painting.
