Aleksander Kotsis (born May 30, 1836 in Ludwinów near Cracow , † August 7, 1877 in Podgórze ) was a Polish painter.

Life

From 1850 Kotsis studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Cracow a . a. with Wojciech Stattler and Władysław Łuszczkiewicz . His friends included Jan Matejko , Andrzej Grabowski and Artur Grottger . In 1860 Kotsis went to Vienna and continued his studies at the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna with Ferdinand Georg Waldmüller . In 1866 he came to Warsaw , in 1867 to Paris and Brussels . He spent the period 1871–1875 in Munich , where he joined the Kunstverein . He mainly painted landscapes, portraits and genre pictures .
