Pietro Magni (born October 21,  1816 in Milan , † January 10, 1877 there ) was an Italian sculptor .

Pietro Magni initially studied for a short time at the Accademia di Belle Arti di Brera in Milan and then entered the studio of the sculptor Abbondio Sangiorgio . From 1837 the work of the sculptor Lorenzo Bartolini had a great influence on him. In 1849 he joined the pioneer of the Risorgimento , Giuseppe Garibaldi , during a study trip to Rome .

In 1850 his statue of David with the sling won the Accademia di Brera award; it was also exhibited at the Paris World's Fair in 1855 . The merging of genre-like everyday depictions with romantic pathos made his reading girl, presented in 1856, his most successful work, of which he made several copies. 1855–1867 he created several statues for the Milan Cathedral . In 1860 he was appointed to a chair in sculpture at the Accademia di Brera in Milan.

He received several representative commissions, including sculptures for the Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II passage in Milan, the design of the Leonardo da Vinci monument on the square in front of La Scala in Milan and an allegorical group of figures for the opening of the Suez Canal in 1863. His allegorical and However, monumental late work was no longer able to build on the artistic success of his early sculptures.

One of his students was the sculptor Enrico Butti .
