Albert Liénard (born January 9, 1938 in Quaregnon ; † March 31, 2011 ) was a Belgian politician of the Center Démocrate Humaniste (cdH).

Life

After obtaining a short-term university diploma (Regendat) in sciences and geography, André Liénard initially worked as a teacher. He made his leap into local politics in 1970 when he was elected to the community council of Eugies for the Christian-social Parti Social-Chrétien (PSC). He retained this mandate - after the municipal merger in 1977 into Frameries - until 2009.

After a short stay in the Chamber of Deputies , Liénard directed his field of activity mainly to the Walloon Region created in 1980 . In 1985 he was given the post of Minister of Spatial Planning in the government of his party colleague Melchior Wathelet (PSC), which he held until 1992. From 1992 he moved to the office of Minister of Employment and was also responsible for foreign trade. In this context, he founded the Agence Wallonne à l'Exportation et aux Investissements étrangers (AWEX), the Walloon agency for export and foreign investments. After the 1995 elections, Liénard lost his ministerial post and sat again as a simple member of the Walloon Parliament until 2004.

Albert Liénard died on March 31, 2011 at the age of 73.
