Paul Albert Aron (also Paul Aaron ; born January 9, 1886 in Dresden ; died February 6, 1955 in New York ) was a German-American pianist, composer, director, conductor, organizer, arranger, educator and translator.

Life

The merchant's son attended the Wettiner grammar school in Dresden , then studied law for two years in Munich, where he already received lessons from Max Reger . He followed this as a composition student at the Leipzig Conservatory , where he was also a student of Robert Teichmüller . As a result, he often performed as a piano duo with Reger . In October 1921 he called for a subscription to his private, non-institutionalized concert series “Neue Musik Paul Aron” in Dresden , in which between 1921 and 1931 he performed over 50 concerts with more than 200 works by contemporary composers. Together with the violinist Francis Koene and the cellist Karl Hesse, Aron formed the “New Dresden Trio” in 1927, with which he performed not only in Dresden but also in other German cities and abroad until at least 1930.

When power was handed over to the National Socialists in 1933, he had to flee to Czechoslovakia and initially worked there in Teplitz-Schönau and in Aussig . Occasionally - at great risk - he appeared for the Jewish Cultural Association in Dresden and Chemnitz. He went from Teplitz to Prague, but also found it difficult to gain a foothold there.

Shortly before the German Wehrmacht invaded Czechoslovakia in 1939, he fled to Cuba . On February 25, 1941, he lived in the USA mainly as a piano teacher, translator and arranger. In 1953/54 he founded the avant-garde group “The Opera Players” with the director Morton Siegel . a. by Darius Milhaud , Kurt Weill and Ernst Toch .

Finally, at the age of 69, he died of a heart attack in New York City .
