The Gulf of Lingayen is a bay on the Philippine island of Luzon in the South China Sea .
It is surrounded by the provinces of Pangasinan and La Union and lies between the Zambales Mountains and the Cordillera Central . The Agno flows into the bay.
There are several islands in the Gulf, most of which belong to the Hundred Islands National Park and are mostly small. There are several cities on the Gulf such as Dagupan , Alaminos and San Fernando . The creation of salt by salt pans and fishing are the main sources of income in the area.
The Gulf played an important strategic role in the Battle of the Philippines from late 1941 and the American Operation Mike I in early 1945.
