Viktor Martin Otto Denk

Viktor Martin Otto Denk (born June 22, 1853 in Deggendorf ; † January 9, 1918 in Regensburg ) was a German writer and editor. He also became known under the pseudonym Otto von Schaching .

Live and act

The son of a factory manager attended high school in Metten and Regensburg. After completing the school teacher seminar in Straubing, he was an elementary school teacher in Vilshofen , where he was dismissed during the Kulturkampf . In 1872 he became editor of the "Catholic Teachers' Journal".

In Rome he was later a teacher at the Austrian hospice Collegio Teutonico di Santa Maria dell'Anima . Then he studied philology and history at the Universities of Breslau and Munich and was awarded a Dr. phil. PhD . As the editor of a political paper, he received a prison sentence and then went to England as a teacher. After long trips he was a teacher at the Cassianeum in Donauwörth (→ Ludwig Auer ) from 1888 and at the same time editor of the daily newspaper “Regensburger Anzeiger”, the youth magazine “Efeuranken” and 1898–1911 of the family magazine “ Deutscher Hausschatz ”. In 1910 he founded the Catholic monthly “Der Aar” and headed it until 1913. Denk was appointed to the royal Bavarian council.

Denk wrote patriotic and historical writings as well as entertainment literature on popular and historical topics (e.g. 1896 "Loyalty to Bavaria. Historical tale from the 18th century for the people and the mature youth"). He also worked as a translator and published literary and linguistic studies. In 1890 he was appointed a corresponding member of the Royal Academy of Sciences in Barcelona.
