Thomas Blimlinger (born January 9, 1957 in Vienna ) is an Austrian politician . From 2001 to 2017 he was district chairman of Vienna's 7th district, Neubau .

Political career

Blimlinger attended the GRG7 Kandlgasse and studied economics at the University of Vienna . Born in Neubauer, Blimlinger began his political career in 1986 with the Neubauer Greens . In 1991 he became a district councilor, and in 1996 he was also the Green Club Chairman in Neubau. In addition, he worked from 1992 to 1998 as a federal finance officer for the Greens and was a member of the federal executive board.

In the 2001 district council elections, the Neubauer Greens, with Blimlinger as the top candidate, achieved a relative majority for the first time in a Vienna district with 32.55 percent of the votes cast . This made Blimlinger the first district head of Vienna appointed by the Vienna Greens . Due to incompatibility provisions he had his hitherto operated Tabaktrafik give up and lost Trafik concession.

The Neubauer Greens were able to expand their leadership position in the district in the district council election on October 23, 2005, with Blimlinger as the top candidate. The Neubauer Greens recorded an increase in votes of 10.7 percentage points and achieved a total of 43.26% of the votes.

In the district council election on October 10, 2010, the Neubauer Greens again achieved another increase to 45.44% of the votes, with Blimlinger as the top candidate.

In September 2017 he announced his resignation as District Chairman of Neubau. Markus Reiter became his successor ; the official handover took place during a district representative meeting on November 30, 2017.

Blimlinger, his sisters Eva Blimlinger and Marianne Afifi are grandchildren of the non-party post-war justice minister and sports official Josef Gerö .
