The Kitakyūshū monorail is part of the public transport system of the Japanese city ​​of Kitakyūshū on the island of Kyūshū . It was put into operation on January 9, 1985 and consists only of the Kokura line ( Japanese 小 倉 線 , Kokura-sen , officially: 北九州 高速 鉄 道 小 倉 線 , Kitakyūshū kōsoku tetsudō Kokura-sen , dt. Kitakyūshū high-speed railway Kokura line ). This runs in a north-south direction.

The monorail is owned by the City of Kitakyushu. Until the expansion into Kokura station, the railway was in the red. This expansion originally met resistance from businessmen in the Uomachi shopping area, who feared for their sales. This fear turned out to be unfounded.

Once a year there is a beer and wine celebration, which is celebrated in the monorail. Another attraction is that Santa Claus will be on the trains on December 24th.

Further expansion

There are currently no plans to build another line or expand the existing one.
