The Macworld | iWorld (until 2011: Macworld Conference & Expo ) was an American technology fair that was organized from 1985 to 2014 by IDG Verlag. It took place annually towards the beginning of the year in San Francisco , and was often used by Apple to introduce new products. In 2009 Apple announced that it would no longer take part in the fair in the future. In October 2014, IDG announced that the fair would be closed for the time being.

Fairs were held under the same name in New York City , Boston and Tokyo , but they have since been discontinued.

The first Macworld was held in 1985 and named after the Macintosh introduced in 1984 .

1997

Steve Jobs announces a collaboration between Microsoft and the ailing company Apple. Bill Gates is connected via video conference , which the audience answers with whistles and boos.

1998

Introducing the first iMac .

1999

Presentation of the first iBook , as well as the AirPort built into it (WLAN IEEE802.11 standard) and presentation of Halo: Fight for the future .

2000

Presentation of the Developer Preview 3 from Mac OS X 10.0 and the new Aqua - surface .

2003

Presentation of the Apple Safari web browser .

2005

Jobs demonstrated some of the new features of Mac OS X Tiger . New versions of Final Cut Pro , iLife and iWork , as well as the new Mac mini and the new iPod shuffle were also introduced.

2006

ILife '06 (new with iWeb) and iWork '06 were introduced.

New versions of the professional tools Final Cut Pro , Aperture and Logic have been announced. It was emphasized that these new programs were already available as universal binaries , which means that they ran natively on both PowerPC and Intel- based Macs ( x86 processor ).

Paul Otellini , CEO of Intel, presented Jobs with a symbolic wafer to show that the work on switching to Intel processors was complete. Then the first Intel-based Macs, the iMac and the MacBook Pro with Core Duo processors, were presented.

2007

Steve Jobs first demonstrated the Apple TV set-top box , which was presented at a special event in September 2006 under the code name iTV.

In the second part of the keynote, Jobs presented the iPhone to the world for the first time.

2008

Steve Jobs introduces the MacBook Air

The keynote for 2008 took place on January 15th. Steve Jobs presented the Time Capsule , which is supposed to simplify data backup using Time Machine . Then Jobs presented the new iPod and iPhone firmware version 1.1.3. This was followed by the iTunes Store film rental and a new MacBook Air .

Microsoft announced the launch of Microsoft Office 2008 for Mac at the trade fair .

2009

Apple announced that they will be attending Macworld for the last time in 2009. The keynote was not given by Steve Jobs , but by Phil Schiller . ILife and iWork '09 as well as a new 17 "MacBook Pro were presented.

2012

In 2012 the conference was featured in “Macworld | iWorld "renamed. IDG announced that concerts, film premieres and art exhibitions will also show the cultural influence of multimedia content created on Apple devices.
