Norberto Bobbio
Norberto Bobbio (born October 18, 1909 in Turin ; † January 9, 2004 there ) was an Italian legal philosopher and publicist .
Life
Norberto Bobbio - son of a surgeon - attended the Massimo d'Azeglio high school in Turin from 1919 to 1927 and then studied law at the University of Turin . Here he received his doctorate in 1931 with a dissertation on legal philosophy. From 1932 to 1932 Bobbio continued his studies at the Universities of Marburg and Turin. He wrote a second dissertation in philosophy on Edmund Husserl .
In 1935 Norberto Bobbio was arrested for a short time because of his membership in the anti-fascist group Giustizia e Libertà ( Justice and Freedom ) together with his friends Vittorio Foa , Giulio Einaudi and Cesare Pavese . In 1942 he joined the then illegal Partito d'Azione , which emerged as an action party from the Giustizia e Libertà and for which he stood as a candidate after the Second World War .
From 1939 to 1940 Bobbio taught at the University of Siena and then until 1948 at the University of Padua , where he received a professorship. In 1948, Norberto Bobbio was appointed to the chair of legal philosophy at the University of Turin, where he taught until his retirement in 1979. In 1972 Bobbio moved to the Chair of Political Science , and from 1973 to 1976 he was the dean of that faculty.
In 1943 Norberto Bobbio and Valeria Cova married (born September 1, 1917 in Perugia, † April 22, 2001 in Turin). The marriage resulted in the sons Luigi Bobbio (* 1944), who works as a political scientist in Italy, Andrea Bobbio (* 1947) and Marco Bobbio (* 1951).
Political position
Norberto Bobbio has researched and published on the theory of democracy , human rights , politics and law . He described himself and his school as “liberal socialism” in contrast to left-wing liberalism , social democracy and socialism .

- 1984: Appointment as Senator for life of the Italian Republic by President Sandro Pertini ;

- 1995 “ The Political Book ” (awarded by the Friedrich-Ebert-Stiftung ).
