The political book
The political book is since 1982 annually by the SPD ready or almost ready Friedrich-Ebert-Stiftung (FES) awarded, worth 10,000 euros Literature Prize to promote important political literature. The award ceremony takes place on May 10th or in close proximity to the anniversary of the National Socialist book burning in 1933 .
idea
As an institution that is committed to the ideas and basic values of social democracy , the FES distinguishes political literature. Current topics that are given special consideration are:
- Social cohesion,
- democratic culture,
- Innovation and participation,
- globalization based on solidarity.
Selection process and jury
Applications and suggestions for award winners are possible until October 30th. In the case of foreign-language authors, the proposed book in a German translation must be on the book market. The actual selection of the prizewinner is made by an independent expert jury, which also compiles a list of further recommended political books.
