Dario Antiseri (born January 9, 1940 in Foligno ) is an Italian philosopher and professor emeritus .

Life

Antiseri received his PhD in philosophy from the University of Perugia in 1963 and then continued his studies at various universities in Europe on questions of mathematical logic, epistemology and philosophy of language .

In 1968 he started teaching at the Sapienza University of Rome and the University of Siena . He is also a member of the Advisory Board of the Tocqueville-Acton Research Center.

From 1975 to 1986 Antiseri was Professor of Philosophy of Language at the University of Padua . Between 1986 and 2009 he took over the chairmanship of the “Methodology of Social Sciences” at the Libera Università Internazionale degli Studi Sociali in Rome and then also the office of Dean of Political Science of the same university between 1994 and 1998.

In February 2002 he and John Royal received an honorary doctorate from Moscow University .

Antiseri is the author of numerous works, many of which have been translated into several languages. His main areas of work include epistemology , philosophy of language, analytical philosophy and, in particular, the philosophy of critical rationalism according to Karl R. Popper . The two volumes Karl Popper (1999) and La Vienna di Popper (2000) were published by Verlag Rubbettino . Another work from this complex of topics is the work Karl R. Popper - Vordenker für an open society (translated into German from Italian in 2005 by ars una). Here Antiseri presents the thinkers of the Vienna Circle in great detail . Together with Giovanni Reale, he wrote one of the most famous manuals in the history of philosophy: Il pensiero occidentale dalle origini ad oggi , which has also been translated into Spanish, Portuguese and Russian.
