Marie Deetz

Marie Deetz , née Marie Brand , ( December 11, 1835 in Damm near Aschaffenburg - June 24, 1893 ) was a German opera singer ( mezzo-soprano ) and stage actress .

Life

Deetz, the daughter of the city's music director Brand, received her musical training in Vienna from Matteo Salvi and Eckart ( Karl Anton Eckert ?) And in 1856 appeared as "Agathe" in Freischütz for the first time in Hanover. From 1856 to 1860 she worked in Mannheim, then in Leipzig, Wiesbaden, Rotterdam and Amsterdam. Then she did not accept any further permanent engagement, but only appeared as a guest at outstanding art venues.

She was the first "Elsa" in Mannheim (January 9, 1859) and Rotterdam (January 19, 1859) as well as the first "Gretchen" in Amsterdam, Wiesbaden and Rotterdam, created the "Elisabeth" in Tannhäuser in Amsterdam in 1865 and on 12 February 1866 the "Selika" in the Afrikanerin in Leipzig.

Deetz was gifted not only musically, but also as an actor, and portrayed both cheerful and sensitive roles convincingly. She had an extensive mezzo-soprano, artistically balanced in all registers.

All of her “Gretchen” remained quite unforgettable, her design an artistic achievement of the rarest kind. Her important roles also include “Pamina”, “Loreley”, “Despina”, “Nancy”, “Cherubin”, “Gemmy”, “Zerlina” "And" Page ".

In 1876 she ended her stage career.

She was married from 1858 to the actor and artistic director Arthur Deetz (1826–1897).

Marie Deetz died in 1893 at the age of 59. She was buried in Cemetery I of the Jerusalem and New Churches in front of the Hallesches Tor , where her husband would later find his final resting place. Both graves have not been preserved.
