Archbishop Eugen Seiterich

Eugen Viktor Paul Seiterich (born January 9, 1903 in Karlsruhe ; † March 3, 1958 in Freiburg im Breisgau ) was Archbishop of Freiburg from 1954 to 1958 .

Life

Eugen Seiterich was born as the eldest son of the grand ducal court coach Franz Seiterich and his wife Adelheid nee. Müller born, his brother Ludwig Seiterich (1904–1979) was later district administrator in Waldshut and Konstanz. Eugen Seiterich spent his childhood and youth in Karlsruhe and graduated from the Goethe Gymnasium in March 1921.

Seiterich then studied Catholic theology and philosophy in Freiburg and received the sacrament of ordination from Archbishop Karl Fritz on March 19, 1926 . This was followed by vicariate stations in Baden-Baden , Neustadt in the Black Forest and Heidelberg . Alongside he continued his studies and in 1930 with a thesis on the logical structure of the type concept with William Stern, Eduard Spranger and Max Weber to Dr. phil. PhD . In 1936, he was on the proofs at Franz Brentano to Dr. theol. PhD.

1938 habilitation he did at the Theological Faculty of the Albert-Ludwigs-University of Freiburg and was designed by Archbishop Conrad Grober 1938 professor at the seminary of St. Peter, 1945 chancellor of appointed. In 1949 he became a full professor for apologetics and religious studies .

On June 23, 1952, Pope Pius XII appointed him . at the suggestion of Archbishop Wendelin Rauch as titular bishop of Binda and auxiliary bishop in Freiburg. The episcopal ordination received his Wendelin Rauch on 3 September of the same year.

After the death of his predecessor, he was elected the youngest Archbishop of Freiburg to date on July 27, 1954, and was introduced to his office on September 21, 1954. However, his term of office was also the shortest of all Freiburg bishops to date . He died of a pulmonary embolism on March 3, 1958 .
