Rainer Klug (born December 13, 1938 in Konstanz ) is auxiliary bishop emeritus in the Archdiocese of Freiburg .

Life

From 1964 to 1968, Klug studied philosophy and Catholic theology at the Albert Ludwig University of Freiburg and the Julius Maximilians University of Würzburg . In 1969 he was ordained a priest . From 1972 to 1981 worked as a diocesan youth pastor. In 1981 he became parish priest of the parish of St. Peter and Paul in Karlsruhe-Durlach (1981–1992) and at the same time from 1981 to 1986 police chaplain at the state police school in Karlsruhe. From 1992 to 2000 he was the regional dean of the Middle Upper Rhine-Pforzheim region and at the same time parish administrator of the parish of St. Franziskus in Karlsruhe.

On May 23, 2000, Klug was appointed titular bishop of Ala Miliaria by Pope John Paul II and appointed auxiliary bishop in the Archdiocese of Freiburg. On June 29, 2000, he received the episcopal ordination from Archbishop Oskar Saier . Co- consecrators were the Archbishop of Strasbourg , Joseph Doré , and Auxiliary Bishop Paul Wehrle . Klug's motto is Spiritu ambulate ("In the spirit goes the way").

Since 2001 he has also been Episcopal Vicar for religious orders and responsible for pastoral care for foreigners . He is also a member of the Liturgy Commission and the Commission for Education and School of the German Bishops' Conference .

On November 21, 2013, Pope Francis accepted his age-related resignation.
