Joseph Pierre Aimé Marie Doré PSS (born September 26, 1936 in Grand-Auverné , France ) is a French theologian and retired Archbishop of Strasbourg .

Life

Doré was born in the Loire-Atlantique department . He began studying Catholic theology at the Institut Catholique de Paris , followed by studies in Rome and Münster , where he also heard lectures from Professor Joseph Ratzinger , who later became Pope Benedict XVI. After his promotion he received in 1961 in Nantes , the sacrament of Holy Orders . A year later he joined the Congregation of the Sulpizians .

For six years he was then Professor and Regens of the seminary in Nantes and then ten years at the Séminaire des Carmes in Paris . Since 1971 he has taught at the Institut Catholique de Paris , whose dean he was from 1988 to 1994.

In 1993 he was appointed President of the International Academy of Religious Sciences in Brussels and a member of the International Commission for the Preparation of the Holy Year 2000.

On September 2, 1997, John Paul II appointed him Archbishop of the Archdiocese of Strasbourg and received him on November 23, 1997 in the Strasbourg Cathedral through his predecessor Archbishop Charles Amarin Brand , through Émile Marcus , Archbishop of Toulouse and the then Bishop of Rottenburg-Stuttgart , Walter Kasper , the episcopal ordination .

On August 25, 2006, Pope Benedict XVI. his resignation request submitted for health reasons. Doré headed the archbishopric until the inauguration of his successor, Jean-Pierre Grallet OFM , appointed on April 21, 2007 , on May 13, 2007 as Apostolic Administrator .
